All about Lipitor » WHAT IS LIPITOR?

Generic name of Lipitor is ATORVASTATIN.
Lipitor is a cholesterol-lowering medication that blocks the production of cholesterol in the body. Atorvastatin is an enzyme blocker known as a “statin”. Accumulation of cholesterol along the walls of your arteries decreases blood flow and the oxygen supply to different parts of your body, brains and heart. If you have diabetes you should continue careful monitoring of your blood sugar levels.
It is used along with a proper diet to help lower cholesterol and fats in the blood.
In general, this drug is prescribed after non-drug treatment options have not been fully successful at lowering cholesterol (e.g., diet change, increase in exercise, weight loss if overweight). Lowering your blood level of fats may help to prevent heart disease, hardening of the arteries, conditions that can lead to heart attack, and vascular disease, angina (Chest pain), strokes.
LIPITOR also got approval to reduce the risk of stroke in people without evidence of heart disease but with numerous risk factors other than diabetes.
LIPITOR tablets are white and have an oval shape. They are marked with 10, 20, 40 or 80 on one side and PD155, PD156, PD157 or PD158 on the other side.
LIPITOR is also known as Cardyl, Sortis, Tahor, Torvast and Zarator.
Lipitor may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
